Where It All Began — And Where We Are Now
Every business has a story, but ours is rooted in family, faith, perseverance, and a love for creating products people can trust.
In 1996, Red Dirt Soap Company was founded by Connie Freebern in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Connie later moved to Bartlesville, where she continued building a successful handmade soap business for several years. In 2002, her son, Doug Lucas, left the U.S. Army and joined his mother in the soap-making business. Together, they continued the family tradition until the business eventually closed in 2008 and the equipment and materials were sold.
Then, in 2011, Doug and I decided it was time to begin our own soap-making journey. As we started searching for supplies and equipment, we discovered who had purchased the original Red Dirt Soap Company materials. We were able to purchase them back and, from there, Lucas Naturals LLC, doing business as Red Dirt Soap Company, was born.
Over the years, our little business has grown far beyond handmade soap. We have developed many different natural skincare products, and we are incredibly grateful for the many customers who have come to love and trust them.
Through every season, one thing has remained at the heart of what we do: our desire to serve God and honor Him in everything we do.
Our goal is to provide our customers with high-quality, natural skincare products they can feel good about using and sharing with their families. We are certainly not perfect, and along the way we have made our fair share of mistakes. But we believe in learning from those mistakes, continually improving, and doing our very best to create products with honesty, integrity, care, and affordability.
In 2023, after years of serving in the military and dealing with the health challenges that came with it, Doug made the difficult decision to step away from the day-to-day operation of the company. I took over running the business, while Doug continues to lend a hand whenever he is needed.
Although our roles have changed, the heart behind the business has not.
Today, my greatest desire is still to honor God in everything I do and to run this company with the kind of honesty, integrity, and excellence that would make Him smile.
We are incredibly thankful for every customer who has supported us, encouraged us, purchased our products, shared our story, and trusted us with their skincare.
